Passing the Flame of Values and Respect

In an age where artificial intelligence is transforming nearly every profession, and where kindness, values, and respect are often overshadowed by impatience, distraction, and indifference, it is more important than ever for education to prioritize character and ethics. While information is readily accessible with a single click, we must not lose sight of the values and manners that shape who we are and guide how we treat others.

Simple acts of courtesy, such as saying “good morning” or “thank you,” standing when someone enters a room, or allowing others to exit an elevator before entering, are not outdated traditions. They are timeless expressions of respect, consideration, and human dignity. Yet, these gestures, once regarded as hallmarks of a true lady or gentleman, are gradually fading from everyday life.

As parents and educators, we share the responsibility of preserving these values and passing them on to the next generation. Academic excellence alone is not enough. We must also nurture respect, responsibility, gratitude, kindness, integrity, perseverance, leadership, citizenship, and a spirit of service.

By doing so, we ensure that our children grow not only in knowledge and skills, but also into compassionate, ethical, and respectful individuals who will make a positive difference in the world. In this way, we continue passing the flame of values and respect, and lighting tomorrow with purpose, character, and hope.

A Year of Brilliance, Resilience and Impact

The year 1987 marked the beginning of my lifelong journey with Jesus & Mary School. It began as a KGII student, hand in hand with my father on my very first day; a day that also marked the start of his own JM journey, which spanned an admirable 34 years until his retirement.

After graduating in 2001, I remained closely connected to the school as a proud alumna, actively involved in the JM Alumni Association. My path eventually led me back to JM in new roles: first as a parent, then as Assistant Principal, and ultimately as Principal of the Intermediate Division.

Having been part of the Jesus & Mary School community for over half of its existence, the 60-Year Diamond Jubilee holds profound meaning for me. It is more than a celebration; it is a powerful testament to our shared dedication, resilience, and enduring vision. This milestone fills us with pride and reminds us that with each step forward, our responsibilities grow. We carry not only the legacy of our past achievements but also the hopes and expectations of all who place their trust in us.

Let us raise our hearts in gratitude to St. Claudine Thévenet, whose courage and unwavering vision gave rise to this remarkable congregation. Let us honour our Lebanese JM Sisters, who have faithfully carried the torch to Rabweh-Cornet Chahwan, nurturing its light with grace and devotion.

To JM Rabweh, our cherished second home, you have embraced generations of my family: my father, my sisters, my four children, and myself. Your walls hold our memories; your spirit shapes our values. As we celebrate this Diamond Jubilee, may the coming year reflect the brilliance, resilience, and impact that define sixty years of solid commitment.
